This collection of songs was recorded and filmed in a garden studio here in Nashville in 2025. Most of them were written by me in the 1980s, in the days when I usually recorded with a rock band. Now here they are as I originally made them up, on acoustic guitars in various back gardens across southern England.

The Beatles and Syd Barrett were always cornerstones of my songwriting, and a tune by each of them is here alongside my own compositions. Artists like them inspired me to get onstage, and, as a teenager, the first places I could get onstage were doing unamplified floor spots at folk clubs. Acoustic guitar-wise, the biggest influences on me were two folk legends: Bert Jansch and Martin Carthy, who between them took British guitar playing to another level. I like to picture the two of them jamming on Syd and the Fabs in garden studios of their own, in some parallel world not far from here.

Playing rock music live is a portal to becoming unhinged, and I still enjoy going through it to this day. But, for me, the songs best dwell peacefully out of the public eye in the solitude of a garden, and that, in the end, is where you’ll always find me…
